Welcome Back To School

Yay! School is back! It's that time of the year again - the beginning of a new school year.

Orientation day at my son's school, Hamilton E. Holmes Elementary, was quite interesting to say the least. Getting all of the wonderful information the school had to offer was like being on the trading floor at Wall Street. Everyone there worked hard and did a good job. Then, I finally get to know who is going to be my son's new teacher and to meet her.

Miss Nicholson. Sounds nice. It takes 235 steps from the beginning of the main corridor to the door of her room.

Hi Miss Nicholson!

It was such a pleasure meeting this new and young teacher who has a very pleasant spirit. She has nice teeth too! The classroom looked great and I found out some interesting facts about Miss Nicholson.

She's from New Orleans and loves spicy food and seafood. She was born in 1985 on January 28th, which makes her an Aquarius, if you're into that. Her first name is Neil and her favorite color is purple, which works out great since the school's colors are purple and gold. Go Lakers! Miss Nicholson loves owls! Owls are her favorite bird and her class looks awesome with all of the owl themed decor. One last thing that I can remember is that she genuinely loves to read.  She said that she really loved reading and wasn't saying that just because she was a teacher, but she really loves books.

Then I found out that my son will actually have two teachers and that Miss Nicholson was his 'homeroom' teacher for half of the day. Miss Jones would be teaching the other half of the day. Well, excuse me! Go fourth grade! They're growing up up and away!
Hello Miss Jones!

I briefly met Miss Jones. She was camera shy but she let me snap a photo from a distance. Thanks Miss Jones!

I appreciate them and everyone at the school. And while we, as parents, aren't part of the teaching staff we are just as important to our children's education as they are.  Our children can receive the best education when we and our dedicated teachers work as a team. It's a parents enthusiasm, support and involvement that inspires children to do their best; and a teacher's ability to teach what they need to learn.

Together we can achieve wonderful things.
